Our Last Hurrah!

(Warning: This is a little photo heavy. They are so darn cute! I can't help myself!)
Yesterday was our last official day of summer. The school schedule is upon us. So we spent some time at the local splash park enjoying the afternoon hours. It wasn't oppressively hot so we did a lot more "park" and a little less "splash". There was a breeze that kept creating a fine mist that was rather chilly, so I can't say as I blame them for not being too keen on getting wet.
Here we are upon arrival! Ready to conquer all that awaited us!

Such a fun place!

Playground fun:

Pretending their towels are capes!

Be still my beating heart! I love this picture of Lucas and the dappled light on his hair and skin.

Time to go home! I am so thankful for the lazy days of summer! We had a great time!

A Favorite.

Gladiolas.
For some, they serve as reminders of funerals or lost loved ones and therefore are not well loved by those individuals.

For me: frilly, feminine, regal. Gorgeous shades of color. I eagerly await their arrival in my garden so I can marvel at their beauty.

A peek at their exquisite detail. Another good gift from God.

Twirly Skirt

Isn't she adorable?
My little lady is modeling her new twirly skirt.
Last year my mom bought her a pack of yellow, orange and green tank tops. We didn't have a lot of shorts to wear with them so I decided since summer is almost over I better get on the ball and make her a skirt to compliment these cute shirts. This morning she decided the orange polka-dot would be the best match for today.
Why not?

I've eyeballed enough tutorials that I figured I could wing this one on my own. A simple fold-over waistband with a ruffle added to the bottom of the body of the skirt. I estimated the fabric strips that I cut using the length of the fabric as the width of the skirt/ ruffle. I'm glad it all worked out because...

She loves her new skirt!

Must. Make. More. Pillows.

My Extreme Makeover experience has gotten me in the mood to make pillows for my own home. I have had my eye on a certain Waverly decorator fabric for a while now. This weekend it is 60% off. Need I say more? I had to snatch up a small snippet of it. It will nicely tie together the two colors I have been trying to combine.

So summer-y! It reminds me of something you would see in a beach house...

Wonderful texture...

I love you, Joann's!

Pillow Talk...

I just returned home from the longest sewing marathon of my life! I have no idea what is going on in "real" life. I received a call Monday morning to make custom pillows for Extreme Makeover. Seriously?! Me?! I couldn't pass up this once-in- a- lifetime opportunity. The adventure began late Monday night after a full day of work and for the past 32 hrs my mother-in-law, myself and a couple other ladies have been sewing to meet today's deadline. The pillows look great, but in my exhausted state I forgot to take a picture before we dropped them off. I hope to post one from my mother-in-law in the near future.

It was great fun, but now I'm off to find my own pillow for a couple hours of shut-eye before Aunt Katie and Uncle Clay bring the kids home from their sleepover! (Thanks Klaytie!)

Demolition Day...

...and sweet treats!

After three separate trips down to the EMHE site we finally saw the demolition! I resorted to bribing the kids with chips and ice cream the last trip down. I'm glad I did because we got front row seats to all the action! The crew has been so nice to all the neighbors of the Terpenning family. They have taken great care to make us feel a part of the process!

GOING...
